1. Early Life
Israel Adesanya was born in Lagos, Nigeria on 22 July 1989. He and his family moved to New Zealand when he was 10 years old. Adesanya began training in kickboxing when he was 18 years old. He had his first professional fight in 2012 and amassed a kickboxing record of 11-0 before transitioning to mixed martial arts (MMA).
Adesanya made his MMA debut in 2012. He fought primarily in regional promotions in New Zealand and Australia, amassing a record of 12-0 before being signed by the UFC in 2018.
In his UFC debut at UFC 221, Adesanya defeated Rob Wilkinson via TKO in the second round. He then went on to win his next four fights, all by knockout or TKO. This included a first-round knockout victory over Anderson Silva at UFC 234, which earned him the Performance of the Night award.
With five wins in the UFC, Adesanya was given a title shot against then-undefeated UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 243. He won the bout and the title via second-round knockout, becoming the first African-born UFC champion.

5. Personal Life
Hi everyone!
Today, I want to talk about something a little bit different – my personal life. In particular, I want to share five things that help make me who I am today.
First, I am a Christian. I grew up in a Christian home and it has always been a big part of my life. I am very thankful for my faith and the role it plays in my life.
Second, I am married to my wonderful wife, Sarah. We have been married for four years and she is my best friend. I am so thankful for her and the love and support she gives me.
Third, I have an amazing son, Isaiah. He is three years old and he is the light of my life. I am so thankful for him and the joy he brings to my life.
Fourth, I love sports. I played football and basketball in high school and I still enjoy playing both of those sports today. I am also a big fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners.
Finally, I am passionate about helping others. I volunteer with a number of different organizations and I love being able to help those in need.
These are just a few of the things that make me who I am. I am so thankful for all of the blessings in my life and I am excited to see what the future holds.
